Three ways you can introduce hemp seeds into your diet

Did you know hemp seeds (hearts) are a unique and powerful superfood with an abundance of health benefits? It’s what makes them an excellent addition to your diet!

Not only are hemp seeds an excellent of plant-based protein, fibre and omega 3 fatty acids, but they have a wide range of other benefits too:

  • Help to regulate the immune system and have neuro-protective effects.
  • They are rich in fibre to maintain optimal gut health.
  • Support skin suppleness and improve skin conditions.
  • Assist in weight loss by helping to reduce food
  • Supports hormone health resulting in reduced symptoms associated with PMS and menopause.
  • They are plant-based, making them both vegetarian and vegan friendly

Wanting to reap the rewards of these benefits and experience the goodness of hemp seeds, but unsure how you would use them?

We have come up with three easy ways you can introduce hemp seeds into your diet!

1) Add a spoonful to your breakfast

Whether it be a green smoothie, overnight oats, or porridge, just add a spoonful of hemp seeds along with your favourite fruits, some honey, peanut butter or whatever else you like to add.

Hemp seeds are the perfect way to start your day – a delicious and nutritious addition to your breakfast, providing you with a more potent source of plant-based protein and healthy fats to keep you fuller for longer.

2) Sprinkle over your summer salad 

You can’t go wrong with a refreshing summer salad and the best part is, hemp seeds go great with everything.

Have a go-to salad you always make? Just add a sprinkle of hemp seeds on top – a little addition with an abundance of health benefits.

Ingredients:

2 x cups green cabbage, finely shredded
2 x cups red cabbage, finely shredded
2 x radishes, julienned
1 x carrot, peeled & julienned
1⁄2 x bunch of spring onion, chopped
1⁄2 x bunch coriander, chopped
1⁄2 x bunch mint, chopped
1 x tablespoon sesame seeds 1⁄2 x cup of almonds, raw
1 x Tbs Hemponics hemp hearts (seeds)
1 x avocado, chopped
Salt and pepper to taste

Dressing

1x fresh lime, juiced
1x tsp apple cider vinegar
¼ cup of olive oil
2 x cloves of garlic, minced 3 cm x of ginger, minced

Method:

In a small bowl, whisk together the dressing ingredients.

In a separate bowl, toss the cabbage, carrots, radishes, spring onion, coriander and mint together. Pour the dressing on.

Serve it up in a bowl and top with almonds, avocado, hemp seeds and toasted sesame seeds.

3) Create a DIY Dukkah mix

Dukkah can spice up anything – whether it’s with some fresh bread and olive oil on those balmy summer nights, or the cherry on top of your morning avocado toast.

Simply compile your favourite spices, nuts or seeds (eg. Hemp), place your selected mix in a blender and there you have it – a delicious dukkah! If you would like to add some extra flavour, you can toast the nuts and spices in a pan before blending.
